UWI elects officers for 2010-11

County, municipalities set 2010-11 tax rates

     July 1 marked the beginning of a new fiscal year for the County of Anson and the seven county municipalities. Here are the FY 2010-11 tax rates:

  • Anson County -- 76.7 cents per $100 valuation

  • Ansonville -- 25 cents per $100 valuation

  • Lilesville -- 48 cents per $100 valuation

  • McFarlan -- 25 cents per $100 valuation

  • Morven -- 44 cents per $100 valuation

  • Peachland -- 30 cents per $100 valuation

  • Polkton -- 25 cents per $100 valuation

  • Wadesboro -- 49.6 cents per $100 valuation


Our State magazine list includes The Forever Inn

     Our State magazine's July 2010 issue highlighting "100 Foods You Must Eat in 100 Counties" chose The Forever Inn Bed & Breakfast to represent Anson County on the list. Innkeeper/owner Merrie Datin served the visiting writer her maple pecan chocolate-stuffed French toast and her apple-puff pancakes. The writer chose the French toast for his "Must Eat" list. Anson County 'Names in the News'

     John Greene, Anson County School System and Anson Sign Co., has been named the Area VI (Ellerbe, Mount Gilead, Oakboro, Rockingham and Wadesboro) "Outstanding Civitan of the Year." Greene is president of the Wadesboro Civitans Club. The honor was bestowed June 21 during the Area VI awards night in Oakboro ... Patsy Hooks, founder of the Humane Society of Anson County (now Homeward Bound), has resigned from the Homeward Bound board of directors ... Travel consultant Brenda McMillian, recently completed Carnival Cruise Lines' on-line training program for travel agents. McMillian operates BAM 1 Travel Inc. ... Anson native Anjanette Flowers was the commencement speaker at Anson High School's 2010 graduation ceremony on June 12. Flowers (Angie to her Anson friends) graduated from AHS in 1995 and from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1999, where she majored in journalism and mass communication. She has been a television reporter/anchorwoman at News 14 Carolina in Charlotte, WPDE in Florence, S.C., and at WPLG in Miami, Fla. She currently is an anchorwoman at WCNC in Charlotte.
